Lohn
Independent School District is a rural K-12 district located in the Central Texas town of
Lohn. Lohn ISD prides itself in its academic achievements. Students
consistently out-perform state averages. As a result, the district has been awarded
the State of Texas' highest recognition Exemplary School for the last five years.
During the 2000-2001 school year, Lohn ISD was one of 5 Texas school districts nationally
recognized for its Title 1 program.
Although the
district is very small, Lohn students are privileged to have one of the most
technologically advanced campuses in the Lone Star State. Along with a handful of
partner schools, Lohn ISD has been a pioneer in the area of distance learning.
Through the combined efforts of these partner schools and with the assistance of the
Central Texas Telephone Cooperative, the distance-learning network called INFONET was
built. This network allows the partner schools to offer classes to students at any
location in the consortium. In association with Central Texas College in Killeen,
Lohn offers "dual-credit" and college courses providing High School and college
credit to Lohn and other area students using the INFONET network. Lohn is a fully
"wired" institution with at least three Internet-accessible computers in every
classroom. Currently Lohn ISD boasts a student-to-computer ratio of less than two to
one. |
